Man! I hadn't realized that it's been MONTHS since I posted. Guess I haven't really done much interesting lately.
I did go to Mardi Gras in Houma and Chauvin a few weeks ago. What a blast! Too bad Pat had to work.
These little ones had a great time at the parade. AND they could really put away the crawfish!
My DIL had a great time at the parade too.
My BIL, Ted, was funny at the Houma Aquarius Parade...he wore the panties he caught on his head!
Since Pat wasn't with me to protect me from flying beads, I wasn't able to take as many pictures this year...sorry! We still had a fabulous time. There were three huge garbage bags full of beads that we left in Chauvin for a friend to throw the following weekend. Trust me...we brought home plenty of beautiful throws.
Hope your Mardi Gras was great too!
Pardon my language but hurricanes SUCK! Gustav is busy tearing apart one of my favorite places to park the motorhome...my SIL's home in Chauvin, Louisiana.
This is their beautiful front yard complete with hundred year old oaks and a Louisiana Bayou. The eye of the storm passed there a few hours ago. Her brother in law is riding the storm out on their 50 ft. shrimp boat. The rest of the family is safe here in north Louisiana. We're only supposed to get tropical storm force winds, lots of rain and the threat of tornadoes...lovely. Christy and Reynold are understandably upset. Their home was virtually destroyed by Hurricane Rita when the levees failed and it was flooded. They've just really gotten everything back to normal after living in a travel trailer for over a year and then getting the grass to grow again and finishing up the trim work and redecorating. Now they'll have to start over again. Their charming little town was directly hit. Such a bummer. I took these pics there this summer and at Mardi Gras in February.
And finally Wayne who's dad is riding out the storm aboard their shrimp boat, Captain Wayne.
Keep them in your thoughts...they'll need lots of positive energy coming their way!
Yesterday I spent the entire day cleaning house. I'm a little closer but have a LONG way to go to get ready to paint the den. I have more of the same scheduled for today...but...the Goodhousekeeping Fairy (my Mom) helped me yesterday. She folded a mountain of laundry yesterday. Now for the final vacation pics.
On our way back to the campground from Apalachicola we stopped by to see the Cape San Blas Lighthouse. The gift shop was already closed but I was able to get a couple of pictures of the lighthouse which is also undergoing renovations.
On the way back out the drive I took this pic through the trees so you could see the actual light better.
The following pics are the final two pictures of the park at sunset.
As I said in earlier posts...the sunset were NOT spectacular this visit...either too many clouds or too few.
Pat had taken off an extra day but we were not able to stay at the park so we headed to Chauvin, Louisiana to visit his sister and her DH. We can park the motorhome in their front yard on the slab where their home used to be before the hurricane. There is a nice view of the bayou and shrimp boats and Pat enjoys fishing and crabbing from their little dock.
Shrimp season isn't open right now in the closer waters so most of the boats are docked.
There are way more 'for sale' signs on the boat this year. The diesel prices are killing the shrimpers.
And that concludes the vacation report for this year. Yesterday I booked TWO WEEKS at the same park in Florida! Way more cost effective that way and we will be celebrating a big anniversary next year. Back to the cleaning grind for me! Have a great day!
Wow has this month been busy! AND FUN! I have some pics to share regarding my one little word for the year but those will have to wait in favor of Mardi Gras pictures. Pat and I headed to Houma for Mardi Gras last weekend. His sister and BIL usually have a party before the Chauvin parade since they live on the parade route. The typical menu includes boiled crawfish, boiled shrimp, raw oysters and sometimes boiled squid with, of course, plenty of beer. We have lunch around 11 and the parade begins at noon.
The Chauvin parade is a very small, 12 floats, country parade. The floats are NOT the flashy, fancy floats seen in the big cities, but boy do these people have FUN!
The parade runs between SIL's home and the Bayou Petite Caillou.
It begins with the Shriners and their motorcycle stunts.
The parade theme this year was music. The Kiss entry was the prize winning float.
The costumes are not as elaborate in Chauvin, but the beads and other throws are just as nice as the big cities.
The picture below is of my BIL's nephew, Wayne. He rides in several parades during Mardi Gras season and loves it!
More floats in the parade.
This is my DH after the parade. He was wearing only a small portion of the beads he actually caught. He catches with only one hand since he won't put down his beer. I usually set mine down as the floats pass so I can catch beads and throws with both hands..LOL!
After the parade, we gathered again to refuel before heading to the night parade in Houma.
I'll try to post the Houma parade pics tomorrow. I have to go get ready for my Dad's memorial service. He's been gone almost a year but we finally got his ashes back (he was an anatomical donor) and the marker from the VA so we'll be having a private gathering of immediate family this afternoon to honor him.
